TRACK-1: CRANIOFACIAL SURGERY :

The surgery used to correct the congenital and acquired abnormalities of the skull, face, and jaws is called as Craniofacial surgery. The condition is that it usually affects the bones and soft tissues of the head and face in the child’s body. These defects are treated by craniofacial surgeons. The surgery to relieve and restore the shape of the head is the treatment involved in craniofacial surgery. Some craniosynostosis defects are due to hereditary disorders such as Apert and Crouzon disorder, others disorders like Cleft lip and palate. The surgery is a multiple specialties of Plastic, Oral and maxillofacial and Head & neck surgery and deformities in the face, skull, and jaws.

TRACK 2: CRANIOFACIAL ANATOMY AND EMBRYOLOGY

The very early stage of human development is the formation of head and neck. The Embryologic process of head and neck development gives rise to the structure & the anatomy of the Craniofacial Membrane. It forms under three main  layers namely Ectoderm, Endoderm and Mesoderm. During the early stage of growth, the cranium bones are separated by the sutures. The sutures of the infant skull will be wide and have a large separation between the bones. Without any restriction, these sutures allow the brain to grow.  The bony plates fuse together as the brain growth occurs. The Development of Human Facial features is based on the first branchial arch and Mesenchyme ventral to the forebrain. The formation of face and head is due to the bony skeleton. Any abnormalities in the bony skeleton leads to the craniofacial problems. The correction of these problems leads to the surgery called as Craniofacial surgery.

TRACK 4: CRANIOSYNOSTOSIS SURGERY

The early fusion of two or more bones of the skull is called as synostosis or Craniosynostosis. It usually interferes with the normal growth of the brain and skull. A variety of surgical procedures can be used for Craniosynostosis. It can be treated by surgery to create space for growth of the brain that is opened to fused sutures. The treatment to correct this surgical disorder is called as Craniosynostosis repair. It is usually observed by the abnormal head shape of an individual. The surgery involves the separation of fused bones. After the surgery is done, the brain has enough space to grow and develop.

TRACK-6: ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is the speciality of dentistry which includes the diagnosis, surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. Contemporary training in both medicine and dentistry enables oral & maxillofacial surgeons to treat conditions requiring expertise in both fields. These include a range of common oral surgical problems (eg. impacted teeth, dental implants), jaw and congenital facial disproportion, facial trauma, oral cancer, salivary gland disease ,temporomandibular joint disorders, and various benign pathologies (eg. cysts and tumours of the jaws). Oral and maxillofacial surgeons work with patients of all ages from newborn babies to elderly people. They treat children who are born with or develop deformities of their skull or face including cleft lip/palate. Much of their work with young adults involves surgery following an injury or accident. In the older population, they often treat oral cancer and skin tumours of the face and head.

TRACK-7: SKULL BASE SURGERY

Skull base surgery is a highly specialized, minimally invasive surgical technique for evaluating, diagnosing and treating benign or cancerous growths located on the underside of the brain, the base of the skull and the upper vertebrae of the spinal column. It can also be advantageous in repairing congenital anomalies and malformations. Skull base surgeons use special instruments inserted through the skull’s natural openings. Prior to the development of skull base surgery, it was necessary to remove relatively large portions of the skull and/or facial musculature in order to gain entry into these areas. The benefits of skull base surgery include less risk of infection and damage to cerebral structures and nerves, less risk of disfigurement and a shorter recovery time.

TRACK 8: MICROSURGERY

Microsurgery is a methodology performed on parts of the body that require a magnifying instrument to be seen and worked on. These incorporate little veins, nerves, and tubes. Microsurgery is normally performed on the regions of the ear, nose, and throat on the grounds that these have little and sensitive structures. The technique, which utilizes a working room magnifying lens or a powerful loupe amplification, is generally not the principal alternative for the treatment of reconstructive issues, however it can be utilized to settle complex reconstructive issues set up of different methods, for example, essential conclusion, skin joining, recuperating by optional aim, or nearby and territorial fold exchange. Micromanipulative procedures were first connected to surgery in the 1920s for use on the sensitive bones of the internal ear. The systems had been extended by the 1950s to incorporate surgery on little veins and nerve strands. Microsurgery has made conceivable operations that generally basically couldn't be performed. Most significantly, disjoined appendages or digits can be reattached to the body through the microsurgically guided reconnection of separated muscles, ligaments, veins, and nerve filaments. Repairs of the eye's retina, the expulsion of beforehand difficult to reach tumours from the cerebrum.

TRACK-9: CLEFT LIP AND PALATE SURGERY

The cleft lip is the variation from the norm in the arrangement of the upper lip and Orofacial parted is the deficiency of the top of the mouth. The two imperfections may happen together. The nearness of one-sided congenital lip is a standout amongst the most widely recognized inherent deformations. These scatters cause numerous issues and speak to a test to the medicinal group. Congenital fissure is an inborn distortion that causes a few of issues and speaks to an uncommon test to the restorative group. Congenital fissure occurs in around 1 or 2 of each 1,000 children conceived in the United States every year and incorporates it one of the regular birth surrenders. Congenital fissure repair (cheiloplasty) is a surgical methodology to adjust a notch like a deformity in the lip. This issue is repaired between 3 to a half year of age and a typical kind of congenital fissure repair is a turn progression repair. The surgical method relies on the kind of seriousness and deformation. After surgery through particular methods enhancing patients' capacity to eat, talk, hear and inhale, and to recover an ordinary capacity and appearance. Otolaryngologists, oromaxillofacial specialists, plastic specialists, nutritionists, and discourse pathologists are the individuals from the group which cooperates to enhance the personal satisfaction of patients with the congenital fissure.

TRACK 17: CHEMOTHERAPY COMPLICATIONS

Chemotherapeutic specialists are cytotoxic by methods for meddling with cell division (mitosis) however growth cells change broadly in their defenselessness to these operators. To a substantial degree, chemotherapy can be thought of as an approach to harm or stress cells, which may then prompt cell demise if apoptosis is started. A large number of the reactions to chemotherapy can be followed to harm to ordinary cells that separation quickly and are subsequently touchy to hostile to mitotic medications: cells in the bone marrow, stomach related tract and hair follicles. These outcomes in the most widely recognized symptoms of chemotherapy: myelo concealment (diminished creation of platelets, thus additionally immunosuppression), mucositis, and alopecia. In light of the impact on resistant cells, chemotherapy sedates frequently discover use in a large group of maladies that outcome from destructive over a movement of the invulnerable framework against self. These incorporate rheumatoid joint inflammation, foundational lupus erythematosus, various sclerosis, vasculitis and numerous others.

TRACK 18: CRANIOFACIAL CONGENITAL SYNDROMES

Inheritance is autosomal dominant with virtually complete penetrance. It is caused by multiple mutations in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 gene, FGFR2.The orbits are shallow with resulting exorbitism, which is due to the anterior positioning of the greater wing of the sphenoid. The middle cranial fossa is displaced anteriorly and inferiorly, which further shortens the orbit anteroposteriorly. The maxilla is foreshortened, causing reduction of the orbit anteroposteriorly. All these changes result in considerable reduction of orbital volume and resultant significant exorbitism. In severe cases, the lids may not close completely. The maxilla is hypoplastic in all dimensions and is retruded. This decreases the anteroposterior length of the orbital floor. Perhaps most important is the discussion of the role of aesthetic plastic surgery as the final step in the rehabilitation of patients undergoing longstanding and tedious reconstructive surgery for the repair of congenital, acquired, accidental, and neoplastic defects.

TRACK 19: PEDIATRIC CRANIOFACIAL SURGERY:

Craniofacial surgery is a subspecialty of surgery involving the surgery of foetuses, infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. It is an abnormality of the head and facial bones that is present at birth. These anomalies range from mild to very serious. A congenital abnormality can significantly impact a child’s social, psychological and emotional well-being if left untreated. Advances in anaesthesia, surgical techniques, and technology have enhanced the good outcomes and safety. Craniofacial surgery has thus emerged from the valuable contributions of neurosurgery, plastic surgery, occuloplastic, ENT, and head and neck surgery. Teaming of such disciplines helped us to establish a credible unit with ample clinical opportunity.
